Masked Gunman Kills Yemen Security Chief

www.foxnews.com | A masked gunman assassinated a Yemeni security official at the U.S. Embassy in a drive-by shooting in the capital Sanaa on Thursday, officials said.

The Yemeni officials said the killing bore the hallmarks of an Al Qaeda attack, but it was too early to determine if the group was behind it. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

The assassination resembles other attacks targeting Yemeni intelligence, military and security officials in retaliation for a wide military offensive by Yemen's U.S.-backed government against Al Qaeda's branch in the country.

Turkish President: "worst-case scenarios" Playing Out

www.reuters.com | Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Monday the "worst-case scenarios" were now playing out in Syria and Turkey would do everything necessary to protect itself, as its army fired back for a sixth day after a shell from Syria flew over the border.

Gul said the violence in Turkey's southern neighbor, where a revolt against President Bashar al-Assad has evolved into a civil war that threatens to draw in regional powers, could not go on indefinitely and Assad's fall was inevitable.

"The worst-case scenarios are taking place right now in Syria ... Our government is in constant consultation with the Turkish military. Whatever is needed is being done immediately as you see, and it will continue to be done," Gul said.

Is Turkey Ready For A War With Syria?

www.todayszaman.com | There is no doubt that Turkey, the second largest military force in the NATO military alliance after the US, has the capability and the capacity to destroy the Syrian army, or what is left of it anyway after so many defections, poor equipment and low morale.

Taking out Syrian defensive and offensive capabilities will not be that hard, especially considering the loyalty and devotion the Turkish government has gained with the Muslim Brotherhood, the largest and most well-organized grassroots organization in a Sunni majority population that has been battered by the minority Alawite regime for decades.

Is U.S. Setting Up A Turkey-Syrian War?

www.presstv.ir | A senior political analyst has urged the Turkish government to exercise restraint on its moves with regards to Syria, saying the United States favors Ankara-Damascus conflict, Press TV reports.

“I would urge them [the Turkish government] to find a way back, to pull back from this. This is not in Turkey’s interest and if we get a conflict between Turkey and Syria; the one who is laughing will be the United States because they will have disposed of two countries that were resisting the imperial dictates coming from here,” Dr. Webster Griffin Tarpley said in an interview with Press TV on Friday.

The Turkish parliament approved a motion on Thursday that authorizes military operations outside the country's borders "when deemed necessary."

The one-year mandate authorizes military operations in Syria if the Turkish government deems them as necessary.

The 11th Anniversary of 9/11

paulcraigroberts.org | The article below was written for the Journal of 9/11 Studies for the eleventh anniversary of September 11, 2001, the day that terminated accountable government and American liberty. It is posted here with the agreement of the editors.

In order to understand the improbability of the government’s explanation of 9/11, it is not necessary to know anything about what force or forces brought down the three World Trade Center buildings, what hit the Pentagon or caused the explosion, the flying skills or lack thereof of the alleged hijackers, whether the airliner crashed in Pennsylvania or was shot down, whether cell phone calls made at the altitudes could be received, or any other debated aspect of the controversy.

You only have to know two things.

Iran Says Israel's Existence is an "Insult To All Humanity"

news.yahoo.com | Israel's existence is an "insult to all humanity," Iran's president said Friday in one of his sharpest attacks yet against the Jewish state, as Israel openly debates whether to attack Iran over its nuclear program.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said confronting Israel is an effort to "protect the dignity of all human beings."

"The existence of the Zionist regime is an insult to all humanity," Ahmadinejad said. He was addressing worshippers at Tehran University after nationwide pro-Palestinian rallies, an annual event marking Quds (Jerusalem) Day on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.
