Egyptian VP Target of Assassination Plot

FoxNews | A failed assassination attempt on Egypt's Vice President left two of his bodyguards dead, sources tell Fox News.  A senior Obama administration official confirmed that the attack happened soon after Suleiman was appointed, on Jan. 29. The official described it as an organized attack on Suleiman's motorcade.

U.S. Plots Mubarak's Exit

Guaradian.co.uk | The Obama administration is working on a plan in which Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, would stand down immediately in spite of claims yesterday he was intent on clinging on to power until the elections in the autumn.  The White House, the state department and the Pentagon have been involved in discussions that include an option in which Mubarak would step down and yield to a transitional government headed by Egyptian vice-president, Omar Suleiman. This plan would have the backing of the Egyptian military, the New York Times reported.

Mubarak Says There Will Be Chaos If He Resigns

ABC News | ABC's Christiane Amanpour just left the presidential palace in Cairo where she sat down for an exclusive interview with President Hosni Mubarak.  Mubarak told her that he is troubled by the violence we have seen in Tahrir Square over the last few days but that his government is not responsible for it. Instead, he blamed the Muslim Brotherhood, a banned political party in Egypt.  He told her that he is fed up with being president and would like to leave office now, but cannot, he says, for fear that the country would sink into chaos.
